Mrs Harris Goes to Paris

A feel-good fairytale of love and friendship, of being good and kind, that was so utterly charming that it was near impossible to not be swiped up by the irresistible je ne sais quoi and magnetic charisma of Lesley Mansville and her gang of ridiculously good looking, loyal to a fault, French and English friends and frenemies.

Who really needs logic when the story is so unapologetically wholesome and sincere, and so unabashedly premised on wish fulfilment. Unbelievable contrivances and unlikely good fortune be damned! One way or the other, Mansville is getting her Dior frock, be a matchmaker, revolutionise a Fashion House, end a workers’ strike, melt a cold, french heart and find love again!

And by golly, we were absolutely rooting for her all the way even through the predictable ups and downs, but definitely also through some of the less predictable hiccups and unexpected curveballs. It is the latter, together with Mansville’s charms, that lift this film up just above the average rom-com.

A perfect holiday watch and something to lift the spirits up. Brings a smile and some tears, and truly isn’t that the least one wants in a movie? That a beautiful frocks.
