Ticket to Paradise
Julia Roberts and George Clooney are bona fide movie stars. They absolutely light up the screen from the moment they are on and it was near impossible to not smile and be delighted by their electrifying, naturally easy chemistry. Their quippy repartee and relaxed antagonism reminded us how entertaining a great rom-com can be; a necessary escapism balm to our current times. At an easy 104 minutes, the film was a collection of genre tropes with a predictable storyline and “twists”, and yet, with Roberts and Clooney as the leads, it was just so much fun. The film genuinely felt like two friends getting together for a laugh with the director - Ol Parker - simply letting them be them and catching as much of those natural sparks and possibly ad-libbed gems as possible. No one really comes to a rom-com for realism, so don’t expect it. Just let yourself go and immerse into the magical escapism of Hollywood romance.
